Horace the Hate Bug is the evil clone of Herbie The Love Bug he is a all black silent self-driving Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle who appears in the 1997 made-for-television Disney remake film Herbie the Love Bug. He is a minor antagonist, built by Dr. Gustav Stumpfell at Simon Moore's request. The sinister appearance of the character proves Horace's vindictiveness immediately. As with Disney's Herbie the Love Bug , Horace The Hate Bug also does not talk and as well as have artificial intelligence. Horace the Hate Bug just like Herbie the Love Bug is silent self-self driving and uses only sounds and noises to communicate to his drivers but only Herbie the Love Bug honks or beeps his horn to communicate to his drivers in additions to his other sounds and noises to communicate Horace the Hate Bug roars like a scary monster and uses rather sinister sounds and noises to communicate with his drivers.

He has three additional gadgets - a drill in his front right wheel, a grenade launcher in his back, and a laser that shoots from his front.

Horace the Hate Bug kills Herbie at Simon's request in the film. However, Herbie is later rebuilt by Hank shortly afterwards, much to the disgust of Simon and Horace. Simon challenges Hank to a dueling race, at the end of which "the winner takes home both cars." During this race, Simon uses each of Horace's gadgets against Herbie, but Herbie manages to overcome all of them and win the race.

Horace dies at the end of the film after driving into a dam and exploding underground. It is unclear whether this is deliberate suicide or an accidental vehicular crash.

Horace shares similarities with other villainous vehicles such as Christine from the 1983 film of the same name, The Car from the 1977 film of the same name, and K.A.R.R. from Knight Rider.
